A warm, earthy orange with a bright green throat. ‘Terra Cotta Star’ opens large blooms 6 to 8 inches across, four to five per stem, on tall stalks that reach 20 to 25 inches. This is a jumbo bulb (36 cm and up), and each one can send up two to three thick stalks.

    • Choose a sturdy pot with drainage holes, just slightly wider than the bulb. Plant in well-drained potting mix, with one-third to one-half of the bulb above the soil.

    • Keep the base of the pot warm, about 60 to 75°F, to encourage sprouting. Use a bright, warm spot with indirect light.

    • Water lightly at first, then keep the soil moist but never soggy once growth appears.

    • Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 2 to 4 weeks while it’s growing.

    • Tall stalks may need a stake. Turn the pot every few days so they grow straight.

    • After blooming, cut off the flowers but keep the leaves. With a cool, dark rest of 8 to 12 weeks, it can bloom again next year.

    When it arrives
    Unpack your bulb right away. Pot it up within a few days for the fastest bloom. If you can’t plant it right away, keep it in a cool, dry spot out of direct sun.
