How to Grow Amaryllis

Pot It Up
Choose a sturdy pot with drainage holes, just slightly wider than the bulb. Fill it with well-drained potting mix and set the bulb in with the pointed end up, so the top third to half stays above the soil. Press the soil down gently around it.

Keep it Warm & Bright
Put it in a warm spot with bright, indirect light. Water once, then lightly until you see green growth. After that, water when the top inch of soil feels dry. Turn the pot every few days so the stalk grows straight.

Watch it bloom
Growth starts slowly, then picks up fast. Depending on the variety, flowers open about 5 to 12 weeks after planting. Tall stalks and big blooms can get top-heavy, so tie or stake them if they lean.

Enjoy It, Then Let It Rest
When the flowers fade, cut the stalk and keep the leaves. Stop watering when the leaves start to yellow and die, then let the bulb rest somewhere cool and dark for a couple of months, and it can bloom again next year.
