Variety: Peruvian amaryllis ‘Andes Fire’
Color: deep red with a crimson throat
Bulb size: 28/30 cm (circumference)
Height: 18 to 24 inches
Bloom time: about 35 to 40 days after planting
Sold as a single bulb (pot and soil not included)
Hardy in zones 9 to 11, so in colder climates grow it indoors in a pot
-
Plant in a pot just slightly wider than the bulb, in well-drained potting mix, with the top third of the bulb above the soil.
Keep it warm while it roots, about 70 to 77°F, then give it bright, indirect light.
Water lightly at first, then keep the soil moist but never soggy, since overwatering rots the bulb.
